    100 Rice Dishes

100 rice dishes from all over the world are categorised into 6 different taste. Do you know more than 10 rice dishes and how each one tastes like?

    The Process of 100 drawings

    1. I came up with list of objects that I wanted to draw such as, bread, sweets, animals, and patterns.

    2. Since I was passionate about *zentangle art, I wanted to draw line/circle patterns in 100 different ways. However, once I started to draw, I faced difficulty of coming up with 100 patterns. Therefore, I changed the topic.

    * zentangle art is a type of pattern that only uses lines, dots, curves with a black pen.

    3. I changed the topic to 100 types of bread around the world. However, I again faced the same challenge of coming up with 100 breads with an unique category.

    4. Then, I changed the topic to 100 rice dishes around the world. Before I started my drawings, I thought of categorising the rice dishes by its history (How long its been eaten by people).

    5. I began to free-hand the drawings by looking at the images of each rice dish.

    6. However, soon I started to realise that it is quite difficult task even to come up with more than 10 rice dishes. I noticed that I should make the categorisation much more easier for the audience to understand and learn the topic itself.

    7. After much consideration, I decided to categorise each rice dish by it's taste. For example whether it is salty, sour, sweet, spicy, non-flavoured and has umami taste.

What did I used to draw?

    • Paper

    • Pencil

    • Colour Pencil

    • Computer (to refer to images)

How did I categorise 100 drawings?

    • Categorised by the taste

    • Salty

    • Sour

    • Sweet

    • Spicy

    • Umami

    • Through group discussion I learned that even though most of the people know several rice dishes, they only know the popular ones. Therefore, I decided to make the category little bit difficult.
